This is some simple, but extremely important information on deceleration training for athletes. We assume that many athletes automatically know how to land and decelerate under control from a jump. Unfortunately, I can tell you that the majority of the collegiate athletes that I work with have no real understanding as to how they should land and decelerate and this exposes them to injury and lessens their ability to load their hips appropriately to prepare for their next movement.
This is an easy progression, but one that EVERY athlete should be taken through to teach them how to land. Many athletes will move very quickly and efficiently through the progression, but you will be surprised how many aren’t able to master these movements in a timely manner. It also never hurts to run through these same movements periodically just to remind them of the importance of landing correctly.
