Most of the best athletes that we can think of are very good at delecerating. Guys like Michael Jordan and Barry Sanders could stop on a dime at any given moment. That was their advantage. And, most athletes that they competed against never trained this area of sports performance.
This is some simple, but extremely important information on deceleration training for athletes. We assume that many athletes automatically know how to land and decelerate under control from a jump. Unfortunately, I can tell you that the majority of the collegiate athletes that I work with have no real understanding as to how they should land and decelerate and this exposes them to injury and lessens their ability to load their hips appropriately to prepare for their next movement.
