The Thoracic Spine has been described as a movement “linchpin.” Meaning, it plays a huge role in just about every movement pattern in the body. When it breaks down, so does everything around it. According to the Joint-by-Joint approach by Boyle and Cook, if the Thoracic Spine is immobile, the lumbar spine will be forced to become mobility. The same can be said of the Cervical spine and the Scapulo-Thoracic areas of the body. Thus, Thoracic spine’s need for mobility cannot be overstated.
Recently, we came across a great tool for improving various movement strategies with the KnotOut. It is a great spin on the traditional “peanut” and opens up new possibilities with various sizes and densities.
